Invasion sniper cinematic trailer - Jose Villafranca

The invasion sniper in the cinematic trailer.

Invasion Mode is a unique game mode first featured in Sniper Elite 5, later appearing again in Sniper Elite: Resistance, in which one player can invade another player's game as an Axis Sniper, the Sniper Jäger. The invading Sniper has the sole aim to eliminate the player while the Allied Sniper gains the extra objective of taking out the invader.

The mode is available in both single player and co-operative mode. Being invaded grants bonus points for the invaded player and unlocks for both invader and invaded. The mode ends if the Allied sniper completes his mission or kills the invader or is Killed by either the invader sniper or other means (Enemy infantry, tank ect) When an invasion is active the game cannot be loaded back to a save point. Both teams can use invasion phones in order to learn about each other's whereabouts at the expense of attracting attention. Invaded players can unlock character and weapon skins for use in the campaign. Invasion mode can be toggled on and off.

Sniper Jäger[]

The Sniper Jäger, meaning "Sniper Hunter", is an elite enemy sniper controlled by a player. Once the Sniper Jäger joins a game he will spawn in a random location on the map, often near German soldiers. The Sniper Jäger starts of with a small loadout consisting of rifle, submachine gun, pistol, grenade, medkit, band-aid and mine; and can interact with other German soldiers on the map by ordering them to focus with the Stay Sharp ability. The Sniper Jäger can perform melee actions on the invaded players following the Elite system, with takedowns from the back and bayonet from the front.

Abilities[]

Sniper Elite 5[]

The Sniper Jäger has a fixed set of abilities in game.

  • Eagle Eyes - Tagged Axis soldiers will report the Enemy Sniper's Last Known Position on your radar and map.
  • Speedy Recovery - Health regeneration begins sooner
  • Sixth Sense - Receive a notification when you are tagged.
  • Back in the Fight - A Med Kit can be used to revive yourself when incapacitated
  • Cardio - Reduce the Heart Rate increase casued by Sprinting
  • Stay Sharp - Hold LEFT ALT to encourage nerby Axis soldier to play closer attention.
  • Wire Trapper - Plant Booby Traps on Invasion Phones. They will detonate when the Allied Sniper tries to use the phone.
  • Grenade Throwback - Tap E to quick throw a nearby live grenade
  • Stabilized - Heart Rate is reduced when using a Bandage or Med Kit

Special Ability - Stay Sharp

The Sniper Jäger has the Stay Sharp ability, in which he shouts to nearby soldiers the order to "Stay sharp" and look for player, thus heightening the soldiers' alertness. In order to use this ability, the Sniper Jäger has to press Left + ALT so nearby soldiers will be tagged and will actively look for the player without change their patrol routes. In the event one of these soldiers is killed, the Sniper Jäger will see an X marking their place of death on the map. If the soldiers get into combat the Sniper Jäger will also be alerted on his map.

Loadout[]

The Sniper Jäger's loadout works similarly to Karl's in the campaign, and thus includes 3 small arms while supplemented by gadgets. The small arms are customizable while the gadgets are not. The loadout scheme is as follows:

  • 1x Rifle
  • 1x Submachine gun
  • 1x Pistol
  • 1x Medkit
  • 1x Bandage
  • 1x Grenade
  • 1x Mine

Note: Gadgets CAN be edited by entering the shooting range and using workshops as Sniper Jager. However, in most cases this will lead to Easy Anti-Cheat kicking the player out from the session, or banning him from accessing multiplayer functions, thus the editor HIGHLY DISENCOURAGES any attempts on trying to use this method.

Tips[]

Here are some useful tips for both the Sniper Jäger and invaded allied sniper.

For Both Sides[]

  • Always watch your back. Often you may find yourself being followed by your target while attempting to find him.
  • NEVER rush if you know that the enemy is close. Find a corner and try to ambush him.
  • Whoever shoots first, almost always wins, always be ready to fire.
  • Watch for corners, the enemy will often hide behind one.
  • Watch your feet, the enemy will often leave traps in the most (un)expected places, often stairs and doorways.
  • Do not use rifle's scope to scan the area. Glance maybe is reduced compared to regular Snipers and on pair with Elite Snipers glance, but other players will catch it. Use binoculars instead.

As Sniper Jäger[]

  • Try "roleplaying" infantry to fool the enemy. Use rifles looking like ones used by NPCs. Best skins for this are the default German Infantry with no headwear or green helmet, or even better, German Sniper skin with green helmet or garrison cap.
  • When close to infantry, try acting like one, walk randomly while holding "march" button, "Z" by default.
  • Remember that the enemy has more gadgets than you, always watch for multiple traps, and be cautious of an area before using a phone. if the infantry in the area around a phone are dead it usually means that your target has been trough there and thus there's a chance they might have booby trapped the phone with an explosive hoping you might use it and kill yourself for them.
  • You have only a few items, don't waste them. Grenade and Medkit are most important, never use them unless you have no other option.
  • Tag as many soldiers as you can; if any of them die, you will see where the enemy is you can also look at their status to gather clues on their whereabouts as well.
  • If the enemy is in combat, hurry. Other Germans can kill the sniper, making you win but lose your kill.
  • If you see infantry in combat, try acting like one, but take more cover. Get closer to the enemy, once you are close throw a grenade to lure him in the open and gun him down with SMG.
  • When engaging at long range, never shoot from the same position twice, unless you have no other option.
  • Camping, despite being punished by the game with revealing your location is a good tactic to take down less-experienced players. Just don't do it for too long or the game will kill you.
  • When playing with an enemy who is a newbie they will most likely panic when they see that you are in their game, hurry. They will most likely get killed either way by Infantry, and you want to get the kill yourself.
  • Always tag soldiers guarding passings, snipers and officers. They are most likely to get killed, thus revealing the enemy's location.
  • Watch out for tall grass, enemies often hide there, Be sure you check for subtle hints like if the enemy is crouching and has their rifle on their back for example most of the time the rear end of the stock of their rifle will just poke out from on top of the
  • Once you know the enemy's location, do not charge. Flank him or set up a shot instead.
  • You don't have to hide, silencers are not as needed for you as they are for your enemy.
  • For SMGs, the MP44 is by far the best one available for you. Prioritize accuracy and damage output to turn it into a real meat-grinder.
  • Never stay near the spawn location. Be on the move and look for a good point to snipe from or hide among infantry.
  • While you do spawn with a low amount of gadgets, and you can't use pickups, you are not totally limited to what you spawned with. If the Allied Sniper has placed a lot of traps, you can defuse them and use them against the Allied Sniper.
  • If you see a stationary enemy with your binoculars and they don't see you, don't look directly at them and tag them. They will be notified that you tagged them and most likely reposition. Instead, set a marker near their location and switch to your rifle to set up a shot.
  • Be mindful of the difficulty that the player you're invading has the game set to, as this will become your difficulty and it can affect how much health the player has. If the difficulty is on Civilian (Very Easy), both you and the enemy will have increased resilience, which can make some lower damage weapons not kill as easily. However, it can also mean that the player your invading is a newbie or a casual (meaning they may be more reckless and make more noise). If their game is set on Authentic difficulty, it means that both players will have lower health and it usually indicates that you are hunting an experienced player that may prioritize stealth.
  • if you are wearing a skin like the ghillie suit, make sure to use it to your advantage by blending into more thicker foliage and sticking near trees, which is what they are designed to do. if the enemy sees a bush standing in the middle of a street, it's going to look suspicious.
  • Always keep your eyes and ears open, especially if you have a headset. You might be able to pick up the enemy's distant gunshots and decipher where your target is and what they might be doing with their gunshots alone. If you hear single deep cracks or deep cracks in the middle of noise covers, they usually are sniping. If you hear small pops and rapid cracks they may either be using an SMG or be in a conflict with friendly infantry.

As Allied Sniper[]

  • Be aware that the enemy may look like a regular NPC. Always look out for strange behavior, like running or jumping with no reason. If you have an exceptionally keen eye you may be able to distinguish if their weapons are not standard or are out of place (like attachments or cosmetics).
  • Sniper Jägers that wear infantry skins will often hide behind and blend into other infantry. Watch out for their scope glint.
  • Sniper Jägers will get notified when you trigger the alarm and complete objectives. Be on the move at all times to avoid making yourself an easy target.
  • Try avoiding gunfights as much as possible. A keen Sniper Jäger will always be listening for your gunshots and use them to track your position.
  • Your gun is louder than you think, even if it's technically "outside" of enemy hearing range stated in the stats. Experienced Sniper Jägers may actively listen for the sound of it without getting notified about noise in the HUD and track you down just by listening to the sound of your shots.
  • Watch your steps. Walking on mud, grass and in tall grass makes noise; too quiet to be heard by NPCs but loud enough for Sniper Jägers. Sprinting makes even more noise and if you sprint for too long you will audibly be exhausted.
  • Some Sniper Jägers, especially experienced ones, will often wait for you near one of the objectives, so be extremely careful when doing objectives.
  • Mining telephones is (mostly) a waste of time and resources due to it being most of the time a Sniper Jäger will see that you have been through an area and assume that you've booby trapped the phone. It is better to place mines near windows, stairs and other similar places.
  • If you have a feeling that the enemy saw you, you should trust that feeling as you most likely are correct. Run or hide, and wait for the enemy to reveal themselves. Before going back to check for a sniper scope, looking around a corner with your third person camera can be a good way to see their sniper glint without exposing yourself.
  • Sometimes if a Sniper Jäger has invaded your game, going ghost and staying out of sight can be a good thing as you might be able to do objectives, or find the Sniper Jäger before they end up finding you. Newbie and impatient Sniper Jägers may quit the game if they get fed up with looking for you.
  • Staying near your starting location makes you an easy kill, Some Sniper Jägers will go to to those areas first for this reason.
  • Never forget that you are actively being hunted by another human being, not just an NPC enemy that stays in one place. Be prepared for the most unexpected maneuvers and ambush locations and for your enemy to place shots at much further distances than other snipers.
  • Remember that you can booby trap the phones around the map if you have an explosive. If the Sniper Jäger happens to use a booby trapped phone, it will detonate and can potentially tag, incapacitate, or outright kill them. However, keen Sniper Jägers will see the bodies and assume the phone is booby trapped or be skilled enough to not use phones entirely.
  • If you see a scope glint in ANY position, ALWAYS assume it is the Sniper Jäger until you can confirm it isn't. Just because the sniper glint is in an extremely obvious position doesn't always mean it is an NPC. It could be the Sniper Jäger that's either pretending to be an NPC or they could be hard-scoping and waiting for you to peek.
