Brauer is a character in Sniper Elite III, being part of British military intelligence as a spy. He worked behind enemy lines to gather intel on what secret plan Franz Vahlen was working on in North Africa.

Story[]

Sniper Elite 3 - Concept Art - Inscribed bullet

Karl in front of Brauer's tomb holding a bullet with Vahlen's name.

Brauer was was discovered and captured by Axis forces while investigating the secretive German project codenamed Project Seuche. He was held captive at Fort Rifugio, where he was tortured by the Germans. This ordeal ended when Karl Fairburne infiltrated the fort and releases him from his cell. The badly battered Brauer makes a limping dash to the main gate through German and Italian soldiers under cover of Karl providing sniper overwatch, killing the enemy soldiers under cover of a storm in order for Brauer to escape.

Brauer makes a return in the Siwa Oasis, extracting Karl in the nick of time after he got pinned down by a team of enemy snipers. When Karl travels to Kasserine Pass, in order to find what Vahlen is working on, he brings Brauer along to spot for him. Brauer is killed by a German Tiger that blasts the tower he was spotting from. Karl vengefully destroys the tank and buries Brauer, showing grief and remorse for his death.

Personality[]

Brauer is upbeat and quite sarcastic, in stark contrast to Karl, being described as fluent in "stiff upper lips", a British tradition of having a steady and determined attitude or manner in the face of trouble. This was particularly true in his playful banter with Karl inside his cell in Fort Rifugio; bruises and all.

He's one of the few characters Karl was seen to be friendly with. Brauer's intervention in the Siwa Oasis, saving Karl from enemy snipers in the nick of time was celebrated with a joyful "I'd say that makes us even, old chap, don't you?"; but Karl is not as convinced.

Brauer maintened his confidence until the very end at the Kasserine Pass, facing his demise with stoic calmness. Karl really felt for the loss of Brauer and blamed himself, considering Brauer's blood to be on his hands. This lead Karl to save a bullet especially for Vahlen as revenge.

Faux Pas[]

While the game says Brauer is going to spot for Karl in Mission 6: Kasserine Pass, he only spots one single enemy soldier at the beginning and then disappears.

Multiplayer[]

Brauer is available in two forms in multiplayer, "Brauer" and "Brauer Injured", each with a slightly different description.
